Tinnitus is a relatively common condition where you experience ringing, buzzing, clicking, roaring, clicking or hissing in your ears. An external sound does not cause these sounds; nobody else can hear it. Tinnitus affects about 15% – 20% of people and is more likely to develop in adults as they age. Tinnitus can also be caused by an ear injury or a problem with the circulatory system.
There is no evidence that cannabis or cannabinoids can help treat tinnitus, although some may find it can alleviate discomfort associated with an ear injury. There are some reports of cannabis use potentially exacerbating tinnitus (including tinnitus caused by injury), but there are no randomized human trials to support this theory.
The other variable to consider is what is the cause of tinnitus? Specific cannabinoids may possibly treat tinnitus arising from some types of neuroinflammatory conditions. As we know, cannabis is a chemically complex plant where findings in animals don’t always translate to humans.
